Rustic Winter Hutch and FREE Winter Decor Idea!

Winter hutch decor and free winter decor ideas!

Hi friends! Today I’m sharing my newly decorated rustic winter hutch AND a free winter decor idea!

If you follow me on Instagram (you don’t? you should!) you saw my sparse and sad hutch last week after all the Christmas decorations came down.  I got sick of looking at it, so I shopped around my house and redecorated with a natural winter theme.

I also came up with a genius idea for FREE winter decor!  Ok, maybe it’s not genius, but I’m pretty proud of myself for thinking of it!

Here is how the hutch looked right after I cleared all the Christmas stuff away.

And here is how it looks now.

I just love how it came out.  Did you see my genius FREE decor idea? No? Look again at the greenery.

Yep.  I chopped up my Christmas tree!  You may have seen on Instagram (have you followed me yet?) that my husband dragged our tree into the yard and left it there, stand and all. We have no neighbors, so no one can see it and think we’re wackos.  It’s been out there for a week and a half, and when I came home one day and saw it all twinkling in the sunlight and covered in snow, I had the idea to chop off its branches and use them to decorate my house. Ha!

I tried using kitchen scissors, but that didn’t really work, so I just broke off a bunch of branches.

I put some in the white enamel pitchers, and a few sprigs in the ceramic pitcher.  Then I shopped around my house for other woodsy-green-brown items and arranged them on the shelves.  It reminds me of winter in the woods.  Which is good, because it’s winter, and we live in the woods!

Even my mail baskets tie in with the rustic winter theme! (Check out more cute farmhouse baskets here.)

I had some greenery leftover, so I tied it up with a tan and gold ribbon and hung it on the front door.

Winter Pillow Cover Roundup

Hi friends!

I hope you had a lovely Christmas, and if you have time off this week like me (#teacherperks), you’re probably cleaning up, organizing all your new stuff, and packing up all your Christmas decorations.

The period after Christmas has always been the hardest for me to decorate.  The house seems a little sad without all the cheerful red and green, and I’m severely lacking any winter decor to take it’s place.  I’ve been scouring Amazon looking for cute winter decor to brighten up these dark winter days, and I wanted to share some super cute pillow covers!

If you saw my fall or Christmas pillow cover roundup, you know that I prefer pillow covers over throw pillows.  They’re cheaper, easier to store, and easier to keep clean — just throw them in the wash!  You can buy the pillow inserts once, and then change out your covers all year to suit the season or your mood!

Below are my picks for winter pillow covers to decorate with after Christmas.  I was going for a cozy, neutral, icy vibe with the burlap and ice blue.

Winter Decor for Decorating After Christmas

Hi friends!  I hope everyone had a magical Christmas or is still enjoying a lovely Hanukkah or Kwanzaa!

We had a wonderful Christmas, with still one celebration today with my in-laws.  I spent time with family, ate yummy food, and loved seeing my kids get so excited over everything this year.  Now that they’re three, they understand what’s going on a little bit more, and really enjoyed all the celebrations!

Now that Christmas is over, it’s almost time to put away all of the holiday decor.  I’m always a little sad to pack up my Christmas decorations.  We usually leave everything up, including the tree, until New Year’s day, and then I put away all of the overtly ‘Christmas’ decorations, pack up the ornaments and lights, and lug the tree into the woods.

I have a lot of spring, summer, and fall decor, but am lacking winter decor that isn’t ‘Christmas’ decor.  After I pack up the Christmas decorations, I always struggle with what to decorate with!  I’ve been searching Amazon for winter decor items that don’t scream ‘Christmas’, and I wanted to share some of these finds with you!

I’m leaning toward a neutral color scheme as a break from all the red.  Check out these wintry, cozy, non-Christmas decor ideas, and pin the image below to save it for later!
