Travel plans! I’m heading to Philadelphia to visit my little sister in a couple of weeks, and I’m super excited. I love to travel and I love cities (even though I live in the country), plus I’ve only been to Philadelphia once (in the eighth grade). I’m only going to be staying two nights, so it will be a whirlwind trip, but so worth it to see my sister and visit a new city. My sister is an amazing photographer and just moved to Philadelphia. Check out her instagram here.
I don’t claim to be an expert traveler by any means, but I have traveled enough to know what works for me. I’m a super organized person in general, so I always plan ahead, make lists, and organize my packing. I actually love the preparation for a trip: researching a destination, planning my itinerary, making packing lists, putting together outfits, and trying to pack light.
Today I wanted to share with you some of my favorite travel items. Even for a short trip like this one, there are a few items that I always take that make me feel more prepared and make my trip more organized.

Packing Cubes and Other Organizers
I always use packing cubes like these in a rolling suitcase to organize my clothes. Usually I put bottoms in one, tops in another, and socks, underwear, and bras in a third. I also use smaller zip makeup type bags like this to organize electronics, toiletries, and other small items. I have this roll-up jewelry organizer that I use for jewelry and hair stuff like elastics and bobby pins. Having my stuff organized by category helps me find things easily and keeps everything neat during my trip.
Having a crossbody bag is a must for me because it keep my hands free. It’s great in the airport when you’re juggling a suitcase and other items, and it’s also great for day-to-day at your destination. I have this purse and I love it! I bought it 3 or 4 years ago for a trip to Europe and I have been using it as my daily purse ever since. It’s big enough to fit a small umbrella, a water bottle, wallet, my mini first aid kit, and more. It also has a ton of pockets to keep everything organized. I totally recommend Fossil bags for their style and durability. Mine has held up beautifully for years with no wear whatsoever. Check out other cute Fossil styles here.
Travel First Aid Kit
I actually keep a mini first aid kit in my purse all the time, but I always restock it and make sure I have everything before a trip. Read more about how I put together my mini first aid kit here.
Dramamine and Sea Bands
I don’t have severe motion sickness, but I get queasy enough that I always bring both dramamine and sea bands just in case. I usually do ok on a plane or in a car, but if there is turbulence or a bumpy ride, I start to feel ill. And put me on a boat and I’m done. So dramamine and sea bands it is!
If you know me, you know I love to read. When traveling, I love to read on my kindle. It takes up less space than a regular book, plus I can read multiple books without having to bring multiple books. I recently downloaded my library’s app so I can take out ebooks and download them right to my kindle. I definitely recommend you check out your local library’s website for ebook offerings. It’s easy and free!
Thanks for checking out some of my favorite travel items. They really do make traveling easier and more organized for me, and hopefully for you too.
I’d love to know what you’re favorite travel items are. What do you always bring with you to make your trip better? Let me know in the comments!
